‘Sanity is Back’: UDA’s Cherargei Congratulates ODM After Sifuna Ouster

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Nandi Senator Kiprotich Arap Cherargei has congratulated the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leadership following reports that Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has been removed from his position amid internal party wrangles.

In a statement posted on his official X account, Cherargei lauded ODM leader Oburu Odinga for what he termed as restoring “sanity” within the party.

“I congratulate the Orange Democratic Party led by Hon. Oburu Odinga for bringing back sanity to the party by immediately removing Senator Edwin Sifuna as the Secretary General for undermining and sabotaging the broad-based government and pre-coalition engagement between ODM & UDA parties of the 2027 General Elections,” Cherargei said.

The senator claimed he had previously warned Sifuna against publicly criticizing the party’s evolving political direction, adding, “I warned Senator Sifuna severally against this habit of undermining the party; he ate more than he could chew.”

The unfolding events also raise broader governance questions about party democracy and internal dispute resolution, both protected under Article 38 of the Constitution, which guarantees political rights, including participation in political party activities.
