Ex-CS Fred Matiang’i Set to Embark on ‘Meet the People’ Tour of His Gusii Backyard

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Former Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Okeng’o Matiang’i is set to make his first public appearance of 2025 with a highly anticipated “Meet the People” tour of his Gusii homeland on Friday, May 2, 2025.

The tour, organized by the Team Matiang’i Secretariat, will see Dr. Matiang’i accompanied by key elected leaders from the Gusii region, including Governors Simba Arati (Kisii) and Amos Nyaribo (Nyamira), Senators Momoima Onyonka and Okong’o Omogeni, along with several Members of Parliament and County Assemblies.

The visit will feature stops at prominent locations such as Kijauri, Keroka, Keumbu, Kisii Town, and Nyamira, where Dr. Matiang’i will engage directly with the people.

The tour underscores the former CS’s desire to reconnect with grassroots communities and listen to their concerns.

In addition to the tour, Dr. Matiang’i is expected to make official courtesy visits to the Kisii and Nyamira County Governors’ offices.

This marks an important return for Dr. Matiang’i to public life, focusing on strengthening ties with his home region.

This comes days after meeting with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other top opposition figures in a high-level strategy session aimed at unseating President William Ruto in 2027.

Since his return from the United States, the former CS has preferred closed-door meetings with key leaders over press briefings or rallies.

The tour is projected to attract heavyweight leaders from across the country, and could finally cement his place in the 2027 conversation.
