NAIROBI, Kenya- City lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi says former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has shed light on entrenched corruption in Northern Kenya, saying the message has resonated strongly with residents tired of poverty and mismanagement.
Speaking on the ongoing debate about corruption and devolution funds, he said Gachagua, in his “crude and unsophisticated way,” has shown Northern Kenya residents that their leaders are responsible for decades of graft and underdevelopment.
“This is a game changer! The people are realizing their problems are the creation of their own leaders,” he said.
He added that if the debate continues along this trajectory, Gachagua could be invited to the high table by voters in 2027, as many in Northern Kenya look for leadership capable of breaking the cycle of “thieving political vampires.”
The issues of grand corruption and wanton theft of devolution and CDF funds by the leadership of Northern Kenya is resonating very well with the poverty ravaged masses of Northern Kenya. In fact this is a game changer! H. E RIGATHI GACHAGUA in his own crude and unsophisticated
The remarks come amid growing frustration over the alleged mismanagement of devolution and CDF funds, which the lawyer says has left the region impoverished despite billions allocated since 2013.
Gachagua has sustained his criticism of Northern Kenya leaders for failing to invest devolution funds into local institutions, saying that years of funding should have resulted in schools, hospitals and other crucial infrastructure — but hasn’t.
He accused leaders from the region of spending public resources on private real estate in Nairobi instead of developing their home counties, and called for a special audit to track billions in public funds since devolution began.
Gachagua also challenged county leaders to build schools and other institutions rather than relying on affirmative action, arguing that massive resources have been available but largely misused.
