NAIROBI, Kenya – Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has written to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja demanding immediate action against her political rival, former MP Gabriel Kago, whom she accuses of repeatedly mobilising violent gangs to attack her and disrupt her official duties in the constituency.
In a letter, Wamuchomba said she had been targeted during the official opening of Gitombo Gitaumba Road on June 22, claiming Kago and a group of more than 200 youths armed with stones, sticks and whips stormed the event while she was officiating the tarmacking of the road. She said her vehicle was later stoned before police intervened.
“Despite reporting to the OCPD and OCS Kibichoi with evidence, the above persons haven’t been arraigned,” Wamuchomba said.
“As an elected Woman Member of Parliament, I feel threatened to do my duties in my constituency.”
The legislator accused Kago of continuously mobilising goons to intimidate her during political meetings, saying the threats were aimed at stopping her from executing her constitutional responsibilities.
She warned that the attacks were escalating and claimed similar plans were underway as she prepares to commission new government projects in the coming weeks.
Wamuchomba appealed to the IG to provide her with protection whenever she is on duty in Githunguri and to take swift legal action against individuals she says are well-documented in previous incidents.
The letter was copied to top security and oversight officials, including NG-CDF Board Chairperson John Olago-Aluoch, DCI Director Mohamed Amin, National Commission on Human Rights Chairperson Claris Awuor Ogangah and National Gender Commission Chairperson Rehema Jaldessa.
The President issued the order following an attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday.
A group of armed goons staged an attack at Kariobangi North PCEA Church, that ended with teargas being lobbed while the service was underway.
Throwing Tear-gas in church on Sunday is desecration of the Church . This is Evil and attracts the wrath of God. The President of Kenya should apologize not to the political leaders but to the Church and to God. Going by the recent happenings, 2027 elections might take a detour
