NAIROBI, Kenya- A police officer attached to the General Service Unit (GSU) has lost property worth an estimated KSh200,000 after his house was allegedly set on fire by his former girlfriend following a domestic dispute at the GSU Embakasi B Campus in Nairobi.
According to a police report filed at Embakasi Police Station under OB No. 36/31/07/2026, the incident occurred at around 2:00 a.m. on Friday, July 31.
The complainant, identified as David Kwalanda, a GSU officer stationed at Embakasi B Campus, told police that his former girlfriend allegedly torched his Uni-Hut residence after finding him in the company of two other women.
Police said the discovery sparked an altercation between the former couple before the officer escorted the two women out of the camp.
However, while he was still at the gate, he received an alert that his house had caught fire.
The blaze was contained with the help of fellow officers living within the camp before it could spread to neighbouring houses.
Despite the quick response, the fire destroyed assorted household goods valued at approximately Sh200,000, police-issued equipment, and other government stores kept in the house.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
Officers from Embakasi Police Station visited the scene, while crime scene investigators (CSI) from Embakasi processed the area to gather evidence.
Police have classified the matter as Pending Under Investigation (P.U.I.), with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Embakasi leading investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged arson and trace the suspect.
The incident adds to a growing number of domestic disputes that have escalated into criminal investigations, with detectives expected to determine whether charges will be preferred once investigations are complete.
