NAIROBI, Kenya- Scenes reminiscent of major rallies led by the late ODM leader Raila Odinga unfolded at Jacaranda Grounds on Sunday as large crowds gathered for the Linda Mwananchi rally.
Thousands of supporters escorted the movement’s convoy through Nairobi before arriving at the grounds in Embakasi.
The procession passed through Marikiti, Gikomba and Jogoo Road, with supporters singing, dancing and displaying political banners along the route.
Linda Mwananchi leaders received a rapturous welcome when they arrived at the packed grounds.
The delegation included presidential aspirant Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo and other opposition figures.
The leaders began their programme with a Sunday service at ACK All Saints’ Cathedral before embarking on the city tour.
At different stops, Sifuna rallied residents to support the opposition’s campaign to make President William Ruto a one-term president. He also called for unity among opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Babu thanked police officers for maintaining peace as the convoy moved through Nairobi.
Supporters at Jacaranda carried banners bearing political messages, including the phrase “Who has told you?”—a reference to one of Raila’s memorable political refrains.
Music and chants continued as more people arrived at the venue ahead of speeches by the Linda Mwananchi leaders.
Police maintained a visible presence along the procession’s route and around Jacaranda Grounds.
Nairobi police had earlier barred the movement from holding a large rally within the Central Business District but allowed its planned event in Embakasi to proceed.
