NAIROBI, Kenya — Police in Kahawa West have intensified a crackdown on the production and distribution of illicit brews, destroying thousands of litres of suspected alcoholic substances during an operation in the area.
Officers attached to Kahawa West Police Station carried out the operation in Soweto and Saa Mbaya, targeting premises suspected of producing illicit brews and selling drugs.
2,600 Litres of Kangara Destroyed
The operation resulted in the destruction of approximately 2,600 litres of kangara and 120 litres of chang’aa, according to the National Police Service (NPS).
Police also destroyed various equipment and apparatus allegedly being used to manufacture the illicit brews.
The NPS said the operation forms part of continued enforcement efforts targeting activities that pose risks to public safety and community wellbeing.
Police Step Up War on Illicit Brews
The NPS said officers would continue targeting premises suspected of facilitating the production and distribution of illicit alcoholic drinks and other criminal activities.
Police said sustained operations are intended to disrupt activities that can contribute to crime and other public safety concerns.
The Service urged residents to work with law enforcement by providing information about suspected illegal activities in their neighbourhoods.

The police service encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency and information channels.
