NYERI, Kenya- Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has visited former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Wamunyoro home as opposition leaders continue talks ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The visit follows Gachagua’s October 20 meeting with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and leaders from the Linda Mwananchi movement.
Gachagua said their discussions focused on Kenya’s political future and the formation of a new administration.
Kalonzo had said he would return Gachagua’s earlier visit to his home in Tseikuru.
He described the visits as normal engagement between friends and political allies, and rejected claims that they showed divisions within the opposition.
“My brother Rigathi has been to my Muuna home in Tseikuru. Now I have been to his in Wamunyoro. What is wrong with friends and cousins visiting one another?” Kalonzo said.
The meetings come amid efforts to agree on how opposition parties might work together in the next election and who could challenge President William Ruto.
Kalonzo has said he will engage leaders with presidential ambitions as consultations continue.
The political discussions have also prompted competing claims over Sifuna’s possible candidacy.
Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala said the party had settled on Sifuna as its preferred candidate and wanted Kalonzo to support him.
The Wiper leader said he was committed to bringing opposition leaders together, adding that the choice of a candidate and the terms of cooperation remained part of ongoing discussions.
