NAIROBI, Kenya – Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has appealed to DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua to forgive her and agree to a face-to-face meeting, in a fresh attempt to end their bitter political fallout.
Wamuchomba, who announced her departure from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on October 8, 2026, said she was willing to apologise if she had wronged Gachagua during their disagreements.
Speaking during her weekly broadcast over the weekend, the legislator said she had made several attempts to reach the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader but had not received a response.
She specifically recalled standing with Gachagua during his impeachment proceedings in October 2024, saying she was even prepared to apologise if her actions at the time had offended him.
“You have never telephoned me and invited me for a talk and I refused to come. I have even written you a message, requesting for talks, but you went mute. If I wronged you for standing with you during your impeachment, I can come and tell you ‘Sorry’, for even shedding tears for your sake,” she said.
Wamuchomba was among the Mount Kenya MPs who opposed Gachagua’s removal from office, but their relationship later deteriorated amid accusations that she was a State mole allegedly monitoring his political activities.
Wamuchomba challenges Gachagua to unite Mt Kenya
While offering an apology, the Githunguri MP also challenged Gachagua to reconsider how he handles political disagreements within the Mount Kenya region.
She questioned how branding politicians as traitors and directing insults at those who hold different political positions could help unite the region.
“When you fight me; and call me a traitor, ‘fagia’ and other insults…how have you helped me, and you are the leader of the Mountain?” she posed.
Wamuchomba urged the former Deputy President to convene leaders from the region and provide a platform where disagreements could be addressed openly rather than allowing political divisions to escalate.
She cited Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as another politician whose differences with Gachagua could be resolved through dialogue.
“If you are truly the leader of the Mountain, call and assemble all people from the Mountain and tell them, ‘Gathoni you erred for doing this…apologise’. ‘Ndindi [Nyoro] you erred for doing this …apologise’. However, you can’t be the leader of the Mountain by fighting and finishing us,” she said.
From Gachagua ally to political adversary
Wamuchomba’s relationship with Gachagua deteriorated after she was accused of being a government mole allegedly spying on the former Deputy President’s political activities.
The accusations marked a sharp turn in their relationship, considering that she had previously been one of his vocal supporters and defended him during the impeachment process.
In January 2026, the MP publicly accused Gachagua of intimidating and coercing politicians from the Mount Kenya region who had declined to join DCP.
She also questioned why the party’s leaders were pressuring politicians to abandon their existing political affiliations instead of allowing them to make independent decisions.
At the time, Wamuchomba maintained that she would remain in UDA until the 2027 General Election.
However, on October 8, 2026, she announced her departure from the ruling party, citing dissatisfaction with its leadership and the treatment of some communities.
Her exit from UDA marked another shift in her political positioning, although it did not automatically resolve her differences with Gachagua.
