WASHINGTON, United States — Presidential hopeful David Maraga has promised Kenyans living abroad that his administration would prioritise integrity, accountability and protection of public resources if he wins the 2027 General Election.
Speaking to his diaspora supporters in the United States on Sunday, the United Green Movement (UGM) presidential flag bearer said he would take firm action against corruption and prosecute leaders accused of stealing public funds.
“I will not steal from you, my family to steal from you or those I work with to steal from you,” Maraga said.
The former Chief Justice is on a three-week tour of the United States as part of his Ukatiba Caravan, which has taken him to several states and cities to engage Kenyans living in the diaspora ahead of the 2027 election.
Maraga Promises To Protect Public Resources
Maraga said he would protect public resources and strengthen accountability mechanisms, arguing that corruption and weaknesses in the enforcement of graft laws have hindered Kenya’s development.
He cited Singapore as an example of a country whose transformation, in his view, demonstrates the impact of strong governance and accountability.
“We are talking about Singapore in Kenya. You know what Lee Kuan Yew did to make Singapore admirable,” he said.
Maraga said public funds should be safeguarded for the benefit of Kenyans rather than diverted for personal gain.
“Kenyans have not given that money to you to put it in your pocket. I will guard that for you,” he said.
The former Chief Justice has made constitutionalism, integrity and accountable leadership central themes of his presidential campaign. His campaign platform describes its approach as “Reset, Restore, Rebuild.”
US Firm Offers Pro Bono Campaign Support
Maraga’s US tour has also coincided with a pro bono arrangement between Friends of Maraga and Washington-based advisory organisation Vanguard Africa.
Documents filed under the United States Foreign Agents Registration Act show that the two organisations entered into an agreement on September 2, 2026.
Under the arrangement, Vanguard Africa is providing pro bono advisory, international advocacy and public engagement support, with the stated focus including Maraga’s profile and ethical leadership as well as free and fair elections in Kenya.
The agreement is scheduled to run until November 30, after which the parties are expected to review the arrangement.
Maraga’s campaign has presented his US tour as an opportunity to consult Kenyans in the diaspora about the 2027 election and hear their views on Kenya’s political future.
The tour is scheduled to conclude on October 5 after engagements in Washington DC, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Minnesota, Georgia, Houston and Dallas.
