Moja Expressway Announces Temporary Traffic Changes at Westlands Overpass

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Motorists using the Nairobi Expressway have been warned of temporary traffic changes at the Westlands Overpass as maintenance and construction works are carried out on the elevated section.

Moja Expressway said the changes will affect motorists travelling from the James Gichuru Junction towards Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).

The temporary traffic arrangement will run from 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, to 12 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2026.

CBD-bound traffic to use Waiyaki Way

During the works, motorists travelling towards the CBD and seeking to access the Nairobi Expressway through the Westlands Entrance will not use the elevated overpass deck.

Instead, they will be directed to use the lower A8 road, commonly known as Waiyaki Way, to access the route.

Moja Expressway said the arrangement is intended to facilitate maintenance and construction works along the elevated overpass deck.

Expressway exit traffic to resume earlier

The temporary restrictions will specifically affect traffic heading towards the CBD.

Motorists exiting the Nairobi Expressway towards the Westlands Overpass will resume normal operations from 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, according to Moja Expressway.

The company said the different timelines are intended to facilitate the works while allowing traffic to resume progressively along the affected sections.

Motorists urged to plan journeys

Drivers using the affected route have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow for possible delays during the construction period.

Moja Expressway also urged motorists to follow directions issued at the site by traffic marshals.

Drivers have been asked to exercise caution while approaching the affected section and comply with temporary traffic management measures.

Maintenance works underway

The temporary changes are part of maintenance and construction activities along the elevated section of the Nairobi Expressway.

Moja Expressway apologised to motorists for any inconvenience caused by the temporary arrangement and thanked road users for their cooperation.

Motorists travelling from James Gichuru Junction towards the CBD should therefore use the lower Waiyaki Way route to access the Westlands Entrance during the specified works period.
