NAIROBI, Kenya- Lamu Woman Representative Monica Muthoni Marubu has announced that she is severing her political association with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), adding to a growing list of leaders reconsidering their political alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Marubu, who represents Lamu County in the National Assembly, has in recent months been repositioning herself politically as she prepares for the next election.
In April 2026, she had decided not to seek re-election as Woman Representative and instead planned to contest the Lamu Senate seat in 2027.
Her latest move comes amid heightened political realignments ahead of the 2027 polls, with leaders across the country reassessing their party affiliations and preferred political formations.
Marubu’s political positioning has previously attracted attention after she publicly expressed support for President William Ruto’s administration during a January 2026 burial in Murang’a County. Her remarks were met with heckling, and she was reportedly forced off the podium.
The Lamu MP was elected to Parliament in 2022 and has served as the county’s Woman Representative. Parliamentary records have previously identified her as an independent member, while the Kenya Women Parliamentarians Association currently lists her among Lamu’s women representatives.
Her decision to distance herself from UDA is likely to further fuel debate over the political alignments taking shape ahead of the 2027 General Election, particularly along the Coast.
Marubu is expected to face competition for the Lamu Senate seat as political parties and candidates begin positioning themselves for the 2027 contest.
