NAIROBI, Kenya – Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has welcomed the election of DCI Director Amin Mohammed to the INTERPOL Executive Committee, calling it a significant milestone for Kenya’s standing in global security cooperation.
Murkomen, who formally declared Kenya’s bid during the 27th Annual General Meeting of the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO) on November 14, said the victory reflects the confidence the international community has in Kenya’s leadership on security matters.
“This election is a testament to Kenya’s growing role in shaping global policing efforts,” Murkomen said on Thursday, congratulating Mr Amin and reaffirming the government’s commitment to advancing international partnerships.
During the EAPCCO meeting, the CS urged member states to back Kenya’s candidate, stressing the need for stronger representation from Eastern Africa within major global security bodies.
“We humbly seek the support of all Member Countries in this endeavour to enhance our region’s voice and representation in the global space,” he said.
Murkomen emphasized that the region’s long-term stability hinges on decisions made today, noting that transnational crime, terrorism, and emerging security threats require joint, decisive action.
“Together, let us transform our cooperation into meaningful action and our partnerships into lasting protection for generations to come,” he added.
With Amin Mohammed’s election, Murkomen said Kenya is now better positioned to influence global security policy, strengthen intelligence collaboration, and champion regional interests within the world’s largest police organisation.
