KAA Denies Adani Role in Proposed JKIA Modernisation

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has dismissed reports alleging involvement of the Adani Group in the modernisation and expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

In a press statement issued on March 3, KAA said media reports suggesting the Indian conglomerate had a role in the airport upgrade were inaccurate.

“The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) wishes to clarify reports published in one of today’s newspapers regarding the alleged involvement of the Adani Group in the modernisation and expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA),” the statement read.

KAA confirmed that a Privately Initiated Proposal (PIP) previously associated with the Adani Group was formally cancelled.

The Authority stated that it is not engaged in any discussions with the Group or its affiliates concerning JKIA.

“KAA confirms that the Privately Initiated Proposal with the Adani Group was formally cancelled, and there are no discussions with the Group or any of its affiliates in relation to JKIA,” the statement added.

Government-Funded Programme

According to KAA, the JKIA modernisation and expansion programme is a Government of Kenya-funded initiative.

The Authority said the project is being implemented in line with established public-sector policies and procedures.

The clarification comes amid heightened public scrutiny over infrastructure financing models, particularly privately initiated proposals under the Public-Private Partnerships framework.

JKIA is Kenya’s main international gateway and a critical regional aviation hub. Any changes to its ownership, financing, or operational model typically attract strong public and parliamentary interest.

Commitment to Transparency

KAA said it remains committed to transparency and pledged to keep stakeholders and the public informed about developments relating to the airport.

The statement was signed by Dr. Mohamud Gedi, Ag. Managing Director and CEO of KAA.

The Authority did not provide further details on the current procurement or implementation timelines for the modernisation works.
