NAIROBI, Kenya- Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has honoured former Prime Minister Raila Odinga with a poem marking one year since his death.
Titled One Year On, Baba Lives On, the tribute describes Raila as “our history and our story” and says he helped shape the nation.
Murkomen writes that Kenyans should continue tending the “tree of peace, democracy and selfless courage” in Raila’s honour and pass those values on to future generations.
Raila died on October 15, 2025, aged 80, while receiving medical treatment in India.
His family, political leaders and supporters are gathering in Bondo, Siaya County, for memorial events marking the anniversary.
The tribute comes a day after Raila’s widow, Ida Odinga, led a candle-lighting ceremony at Kang’o ka Jaramogi, where the former prime minister is buried.
Raila served as Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013 and was a leading figure in Kenya’s opposition politics and reform campaigns.
The anniversary programme is centred on remembering his public service and political legacy.
