NAIROBI, Kenya- The National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA) has launched a specialized VIP Security Course for officers from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), aimed at strengthening their capabilities in protecting high-profile individuals amid evolving security threats.
The programme, which commenced on Monday at the NCIA, is being facilitated by a team of academy instructors and subject-matter experts, combining classroom learning with practical field exercises.
Speaking during the official opening of the course, NCIA Commandant Ibrahim Jillo challenged the participating officers to embrace discipline, professionalism and excellence throughout the training.
He emphasized that modern VIP protection extends beyond providing a physical security presence and requires officers capable of making sound decisions in dynamic and high-pressure environments.
“VIP protection demands more than physical presence. It requires sound judgment, vigilance and teamwork under pressure. I expect each of you to leave this course better prepared, more disciplined and ready to execute your duties with precision and professionalism,” Jillo said.
According to the academy, the training is designed to enhance participants’ competencies in VIP protection while fostering inter-agency collaboration and the sharing of operational best practices between security institutions.
The course also seeks to improve officers’ preparedness in responding to emerging security challenges affecting the protection of senior government officials and other designated VIPs.
Representing the Kenya Revenue Authority, Prisca Mutindi welcomed the partnership between KRA and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), saying continuous training is essential as the country’s security landscape evolves.
“The security environment continues to evolve, and so must our capabilities. This course will sharpen our officers’ skills, strengthen their operational readiness and further deepen the partnership between KRA and the DCI,” she said.
The National Criminal Investigations Academy said the programme forms part of its broader mandate to provide specialized training for law enforcement officers and partner agencies, equipping them with the skills needed to address increasingly complex security threats.
The initiative also reflects growing collaboration between the DCI and other government institutions in building professional capacity, enhancing operational readiness and improving coordinated responses to emerging security risks across the country.
