NAIROBI, Kenya — People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) leader Ndindi Nyoro has warned President William Ruto that political leaders who supported his 2022 presidential campaign will make their position known ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a tour of Nyandarua County on Sunday, September 20, 2026, Nyoro criticised Ruto over the political fallout involving several figures who were associated with his rise to power.
Nyoro listed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, himself, former Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa and Nyali MP Mohamed Ali, popularly known as Jicho Pevu, as politicians he said had been pushed away by Ruto.
Nyoro lists four politicians he says Ruto ‘chased away’
Nyoro framed the political changes within Ruto’s administration as a series of moves against former allies.
“And I want to inform Ruto that when we elected him in 2022, the first task you did was to chase Rigathi Gachagua, the second task was to chase Ndindi Nyoro, the third was to chase Aisha Jumwa, and the fourth was to chase away Mohamed Ali Jicho Pevu,” Nyoro said.
He then warned that the political figures who supported Ruto’s presidential campaign would make their influence felt ahead of next year’s election.
“I want to tell Ruto that the way we supported him to the presidency, next year he will get to know that he saw us in darkness. He doesn’t know anything yet,” Nyoro said.
Nyoro’s description of the four political developments is his own assessment of the changes within Ruto’s administration.
His remarks come as political parties and leaders continue positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Nyoro turns focus to 2027 election
Nyoro, who recently moved from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to the People’s Party of Kenya, has positioned himself among leaders seeking to build an alternative political platform ahead of the 2027 election.
His remarks in Nyandarua focused on the political consequences of the changing alliances around Ruto rather than specific government policy measures.
The PPK leader has previously said he left UDA because of differences over the party’s political direction and has indicated that he would support an opposition presidential candidate agreed upon by the wider opposition.
Ruto defends broad-based government
Ruto has meanwhile continued to defend the broad-based political arrangement, presenting it as a vehicle for national unity and development.
On September 15, during his development tour of Siaya County, the President said the broad-based team was the only political formation capable of uniting the country.
“The broad-based political team is the only political formation with the capacity to unite our nation,” Ruto said.
He described the arrangement as having what he called a proven track record, a credible vision and a practical plan for addressing Kenya’s challenges.
Ruto also criticised rival political formations, describing them as personality-driven or makeshift groups without what he characterised as a serious national agenda.
“Our nation is too important to be left in the hands of leaders without a plan, an agenda or a vision,” he said.
Ruto links political message to development record
Ruto made the remarks while launching the construction of the 31.8-kilometre Kalandini-Ka Elija Road in Rarieda Constituency, Siaya County.
The project is valued at Sh1.9 billion and is expected to improve connectivity and support agriculture, fishing and trade in communities around Lake Victoria.
The President has increasingly linked his political messaging to the government’s development programme as the 2027 election approaches, citing investments in roads, water, electricity, housing and other infrastructure.
During his Siaya tour, he also inspected ongoing works and announced additional road and infrastructure projects in the county.
Political contest intensifies ahead of 2027
The exchange between Nyoro and Ruto comes as political realignments accelerate ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Former allies of the President have increasingly established or joined alternative political formations, while Ruto has sought to consolidate support through the broad-based government arrangement.
