NAIROBI, Kenya — The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) on Tuesday hosted a delegation from the European Union-funded ACT Project, led by Project Director María Sánchez Gil-Cepeda, to explore deeper collaboration on combating transnational organised crime.
The meeting focused on strengthening partnerships between the EU’s Accountability, Cooperation and Transnational Crime (ACT) Project and the Eastern Africa Association of Prosecutors (EAAP), whose Secretariat is hosted by ODPP Kenya.
Sánchez Gil-Cepeda said the EU values its partnership with Kenya’s security and justice institutions, adding that the visit aimed to gather feedback on the progress of the ACT programme in the region.
The EU ACT Project is a regional initiative designed to enhance the rule of law, improve international cooperation, and support member states in responding to cross-border crime. Its priorities include:
- Mutual legal assistance
- Extradition cooperation
- Asset tracing and recovery
- Judicial and prosecutorial collaboration
ODPP said the engagement marks an important step toward building stronger regional networks, boosting capacity, and improving coordination in tackling illicit financial flows, money laundering, and other transnational crimes.
The institutions agreed to continue developing knowledge-sharing platforms to strengthen cross-border investigations and prosecution efforts.
