Orengo Condemns Attack on Linda Mwananchi Coordinator Ahead of Major Rally

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Homa Bay Governor James Orengo has strongly condemned what he described as a violent attack on Linda Mwananchi County Coordinator and lawyer Samwel Nyauke, accusing unnamed individuals of attempting to intimidate the political movement ahead of a planned event in the county.

In a statement on Tuesday, Orengo said Nyauke, his property, and tenants were targeted in what he termed a “disgraceful display of lawlessness.”

“Political violence is the refuge of terrified cowards,” Orengo said.

The incident happened ahead of the much-awaited rally in Homa Bay.

The governor called on police to move swiftly and arrest both the alleged attackers and those who may have sponsored the incident.

“We demand immediate police action, arrest the hired goons and their sponsors today, not tomorrow,” he said.

Orengo warned against the use of violence to suppress political activities, insisting that every Kenyan has a constitutional right to participate in politics regardless of their affiliation.

“To those using violence to mark territory: Kenya belongs to all Kenyans, not political cartels. No amount of brute force will stop our movement,” he stated.

The governor also declared that the Linda Mwananchi Movement would proceed with its planned political activities in Homa Bay despite the alleged attack.

“We will NOT be intimidated. We will NOT back down. On the 16th of this month, we are in Homa Bay live!” Orengo said.

The remarks come at a time of heightened political activity across the country as parties and political movements intensify grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 General Election.
