KISUMU, Kenya- Siaya Governor James Orengo has dismissed President William Ruto’s planned four-day tour of Nyanza, accusing the government of returning to the region with more promises despite several stalled projects.
President Ruto is expected to begin his visit to Luo Nyanza on Sunday after concluding a development tour of the South Rift. He is scheduled to inspect and launch projects during his four days in the region.
“This Sunday, Ruto returns to Luo Nyanza to parade more empty promises over a trail of stalled projects,” Orengo said.
The Siaya Governor was speaking during a stop in Ahero, Kisumu County, while returning from the burial of Nehemiah Anyange Onyango, the brother of his friend Jamaasai, at Boya.
Orengo also accused the government of distributing development resources unfairly, saying Central Kenya had received the largest share of regional budget allocations.
“Meanwhile, Central Kenya gets the lion’s share of regional budget allocations, yet even they are loudly demanding this incompetent administration step down,” he said.
He further criticised the government over Kenya’s growing public debt, the state of the economy and what he described as the abandonment of the rule of law.
Official Treasury figures show that Kenya’s public and publicly guaranteed debt reached approximately Sh13.01 trillion at the end of June 2026.
“With national debt ballooning past Sh13 trillion and nothing to show for it, this regime has completely abandoned the rule of law,” Orengo said.
The Siaya Governor called on Kenyans to unite ahead of the 2027 General Election and vote President Ruto’s administration out of office.
“Count me in. It’s time for Kenyans to unite and send them packing,” he said.
Orengo is part of the Linda Mwananchi opposition movement, which is campaigning against President Ruto’s re-election in 2027.
The opposition grouping has cited unfulfilled development promises, the rising cost of living, public debt and the performance of the economy among its reasons for seeking a change of government.
President Ruto’s administration maintains that its development tours allow the government to inspect ongoing projects, launch new programmes and engage residents on their priorities.
His Nyanza itinerary is expected to cover projects including roads, markets and affordable housing.
