NAIROBI, Kenya – Political strategist Pauline Njoroge has cautioned opposition supporters against falling for what she describes as a “fresh, state-sponsored strategy” aimed at sowing discord within the coalition.
In a statement on Facebook, Njoroge said the ongoing online attacks targeting opposition leaders such as Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua are part of a wider scheme to fracture the united front against President William Ruto’s administration.
“If you look at the ongoing conversations on Facebook, you would think Kalonzo, Gachagua, and Matiang’i are this country’s main problem, not Ruto,” she wrote. “Government bloggers are having an early Christmas, gleefully riding on this spat.”
Njoroge dismissed reports of major divisions within the opposition, instead accusing “a few individuals acting at the behest of the state” of deliberately stoking internal feuds to weaken the movement.
She urged supporters to resist the bait and remain focused on their shared goals, describing unity as the opposition’s “greatest weapon and only path to victory.”
Highlighting key figures within the coalition, Njoroge praised Kalonzo Musyoka for his steadfastness following last year’s Gen Z protests, quoting him as saying that entering dialogue with the government would amount to “betraying Kenya.”
She also recounted a personal conversation with Fred Matiang’i in Washington, D.C., in May 2024, where he expressed deep concern over the state of the country’s economy and public services, urging leaders to “restore hope” among citizens.
Njoroge further described former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as a “bold and courageous mobilizer” who understands President Ruto’s “cunning ways,” while lauding other opposition figures including George Natembeya, Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, and JB Muturi as “integral parts of one body.”
“When we attack one, we hurt the entire body in the process,” she noted. “Those in Kenya Kwanza are desperate. Their only path to survival is to divide the Opposition, and they are working tirelessly to achieve it.”
Njoroge’s remarks come amid heightened political realignments and social media debates over the direction of the opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 elections.
