Police Probe String of Brutal Killings Across Kenya as Four Deaths Spark Fresh Security Concerns

Date:

GARISSA, Kenya — Detectives have launched multiple investigations across the country following a series of grisly murders reported in four counties, including a woman whose body was discovered floating on the River Tana under mysterious circumstances.

Police in Tana River County said the woman’s body was found on Thursday morning along the edge of the river in Golbanti, with a dog chain fastened to her left leg and secured with a padlock. The remains were retrieved and taken to a local mortuary pending identification and postmortem.

Authorities suspect the woman was killed elsewhere before her body was dumped in the river.

“The body had visible injuries, suggesting she was held, tortured, and later murdered before being disposed of in the water,” said a police source familiar with the case. The victim had no identification documents on her, and detectives are seeking information from the public to help trace her identity and the perpetrators.

In Uasin Gishu County, police are also probing the murder of 43-year-old Moris Mwiti Muthee, whose body was found inside his house in Kapsoya Estate, Eldoret. A neighbour reportedly discovered him unresponsive after going to wake him up for work.

Police who visited the scene said Muthee had a deep cut on the head, and his left ear had been severed. The body was found lying in a pool of blood, and investigators believe he was attacked and killed inside the house. “No items were stolen, and the motive remains unclear. We are pursuing leads,” police said.

Elsewhere in Ahero, Kisumu County, an 18-year-old man identified as Felix Odongo was found murdered, his body concealed beneath a concrete culvert. Officers said the motive of the killing remains undetermined as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, in Rongo, Migori County, police arrested a suspect linked to the fatal stabbing of a boda boda rider during a violent confrontation between rival groups over pending sector elections.

The deceased, identified as Steve Okoth, 30, died after being stabbed during the Tuesday evening chaos that also left five riders injured.

Authorities said the confrontation erupted after disagreements over the planned polls, which were later postponed due to security concerns. “We have one suspect in custody and are pursuing others who fled after the incident,” police confirmed.

The Rongo incident has renewed calls for reforms in the boda boda sector, which has faced growing scrutiny over security concerns. Government officials and transport unions have been pushing for new regulations to restore order and professionalism within the industry.

Police have urged members of the public to volunteer information that could help in the ongoing investigations, assuring that suspects behind the killings will be brought to justice.
