Raila Odinga’s Body Will Not Be Taken to His Karen Residence, ODM Announces

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced a change in the funeral programme of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, citing unavoidable circumstances.

In a statement issued on Friday evening, ODM said the body of the former Prime Minister will not be taken to his Karen residence for an overnight stay as earlier planned.

“After public viewing that is currently going on at the Nyayo National Stadium, the body will be taken back to the Lee Funeral Home for preservation in readiness for airlifting to Kisumu tomorrow morning,” the party’s Director of Communications, Philip Etale, said in the statement dated October 17, 2025.

The change means the planned night vigil at Odinga’s Nairobi home has been cancelled, with the national funeral committee apologising for the inconvenience caused to mourners and supporters who had expected to pay their last respects there.

Public viewing of the late ODM leader’s body is ongoing at the Nyayo National Stadium, where thousands have been turning up to pay tribute to the man fondly referred to as Baba.

The body is expected to be flown to Kisumu on Saturday morning, ahead of regional farewell events before the state funeral scheduled for Sunday.
