NAIROBI, Kenya- President William Ruto has said Raila Odinga’s fight for democracy and national unity must translate into better living conditions, social justice and equal development for all Kenyans.
Addressing residents of Bondo, Siaya County, on Wednesday, Ruto said Raila’s sacrifice should result in more opportunities and a government that serves citizens regardless of their region, community or political views.
The President was accompanied by ODM leaders, including Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga.
His visit followed the handover and dedication of Raila’s mausoleum at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, where Ruto described the late former Prime Minister as a champion of inclusion and national unity.
Ruto calls for inclusive development
Ruto said Raila’s long struggle had helped expand Kenya’s democratic space and give citizens a stronger voice in public affairs.
He urged leaders to carry that legacy forward by ensuring development reaches every part of the country.
The message echoed themes in Ruto’s mausoleum address, where he linked Raila’s legacy to equitable transformation and said no person or region should be left behind because of where they live, their community or how they voted.
The remarks come as Kenya’s political leaders continue to invoke Raila’s legacy ahead of the first anniversary of his death on October 15.
The mausoleum handover in Bondo was part of national events honouring his contribution to the country’s democratic history.
