NAIROBI, Kenya — President William Ruto will on Thursday, November 20, 2025, deliver the State of the Nation Address during a special joint sitting of the National Assembly and Senate at the Main Parliament Buildings in Nairobi.
According to a notice issued on Wednesday and signed by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, the session will begin at 2:30 pm in the National Assembly Chamber.
“Members of Parliament and the general public are hereby notified that a Special Sitting of Parliament shall be held in the National Assembly Chamber, Main Parliament Building, Nairobi, on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 2.30 pm,” reads part of the notice.
The sitting has been convened in line with Standing Order 22(2) of the National Assembly and Standing Order 25(2) of the Senate, which require prior notification of MPs about any special session convened under the Constitution.
The address—mandated under Article 132 (1) of the Constitution—requires the President to report annually on the state of the nation, highlighting progress in implementing national values, governance priorities, and international obligations.
This year’s speech comes against a backdrop of heightened political and diplomatic tension in the region, including the arrest of Kenyan activists in East Africa and the recent death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, whose passing has significantly reshaped Kenya’s political landscape.
President Ruto is expected to outline the government’s key achievements, policy priorities, and strategic goals for the coming year, with a particular focus on national security, economic reforms, and social welfare programs.
The Head of State will also submit a formal report to Parliament for debate on progress made in fulfilling Kenya’s international commitments.
Ruto last addressed Parliament on November 24, 2024, during a politically charged period following the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
This year’s address, coming in the President’s third year in office, will be closely watched for signals on his administration’s direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.
