Ruto to Embark on Four-Day Development Tour of Ukambani

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – President William Ruto will embark on a four-day development tour of the Ukambani region from Wednesday, November 12, 2025, with a packed itinerary covering Makueni, Kitui, and Machakos counties.

The highly anticipated tour—initially planned for April, then postponed to October—will now officially begin next week, focusing on infrastructure, housing, and key projects under the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The President will kick off the tour in Makueni County, where he is expected to commission the newly completed Mikuyu Bridge in Kilome constituency. The bridge is set to ease transport and boost local trade by improving connectivity across the region.

He will then proceed to Kibwezi West constituency to launch the Emali–Ukia Road, a key transport corridor designed to spur economic activity, before inspecting the Wote Affordable Housing Project in Makueni town.

On Thursday, Ruto will tour Kitui County, where he will preside over several engagements across five constituencies.

The highlight of the visit will be the commissioning of the Ithookwe Stadium and Kitui Airstrip, both seen as major investments in sports and regional air connectivity.

The President’s focus will shift to Machakos County on Friday, where he is expected to launch the Kangundo–Mwala Road and commission the Kivandini–Miseleni Road in Mwala.

He will later open the Machakos Affordable Housing Project, advancing his administration’s efforts to expand home ownership under the national housing programme.

The four-day tour will conclude on Saturday with a leaders’ meeting bringing together elected representatives, opinion leaders, and community stakeholders from the three counties to assess ongoing development projects and outline future priorities for the region.

Ruto’s return to Ukambani comes just weeks after he reaffirmed his commitment to visit the region during the Mashujaa Day celebrations at Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui.

The visit had been postponed in October following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“Nyinyi mnajua nilikuwa na mpango wa kutembea hapa kwa shughuli ya maendeleo, hasa ya Kitui County… nilikuwa nimepanga safari ya siku tano hapa na pia siku zingine za Ukambani,” the President told residents during the national holiday, assuring them that the development agenda would proceed as planned.

The Ukambani tour underscores Ruto’s focus on accelerating infrastructure development, expanding affordable housing, and driving economic transformation — key pillars of his administration’s agenda to improve livelihoods across Kenya.
