“The Plot to Silence Me”: Gachagua Claims Assassination Squad Deployed by State

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- In a fiery statement delivered from his Karen home on Monday, embattled DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua accused President William Ruto’s government of orchestrating a lethal and calculated plan to eliminate him — allegations that now send shockwaves through Kenya’s already fragile political terrain.

Flanked by a group of loyal leaders, among them Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa, Gachagua claimed he had received intelligence that a deadly squad of elite officers — drawn from the Administration Police, the National Intelligence Service (NIS), the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU), and the General Service Unit (GSU) — was deployed to assassinate him under the guise of law enforcement.

“I received intelligence reports that President William Ruto had ordered that I be dealt with once and for all,” said Gachagua.

“And since the goons sponsored by the state had failed on several instances, the police had to come in.”

According to the former Deputy President, the deployment followed a direct communication from the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to top security bosses — the Inspector General of Police, the Director of Criminal Investigations, and the NIS Director-General.

“Killer Squad” Accusations and Chilling Claims

Gachagua detailed what he called a “killer squad” of 101 heavily armed and masked officers, alleging they were involved in extra-judicial killings and were deployed to Gatanga constituency, where they sealed all exits, preparing to ambush his convoy on May 18, 2025.

“This squad was armed to the teeth and hooded to conceal their identity because of the heinous acts they wanted to commit on us,” he said, further claiming the officers had intended to plant arms and weapons in his convoy as false evidence for a criminal case.

Even more disturbing were his allegations that the operation included a unit “highly trained in the use of biological weapons,” tasked with poisoning him via inhaled chemicals designed to paralyze his brain within three months.

“This was the intent and purpose of the whole operation,” he said, calling it “a state-sanctioned attempt on my life.”

Gachagua claims he evaded the attack by using alternative routes, guided by sympathetic security officers who he says are “opposed to what is happening.”

Mounting Tensions Amid Crackdown on Gen Z Protests

The bombshell statement comes in the wake of nationwide speculation that Gachagua was to be arrested over his alleged role in supporting the June 25, 2024, “Gen Z” protests — a powerful youth-led uprising against government corruption and economic mismanagement.

The Interior Ministry has in recent days issued strong condemnations, with Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki accusing unnamed senior leaders of stoking unrest.

Gachagua’s name was repeatedly whispered in political corridors — now he says the plot is no longer just political but existential.

Gachagua: “Ruto Wants Me Vulnerable”

In another serious accusation, Gachagua said he had credible information that President Ruto had ordered the disarmament of his private security personnel and the cancellation of their firearm licenses — effectively stripping him of personal protection.

“This is to leave me vulnerable so that goons can attack me and possibly eliminate me,” he said.

He pointed to a series of past incidents where he was attacked by hired mobs, including during a burial in Limuru, with no police action taken. In one case, he claims a police officer hurled a teargas canister directly at him.

2027 Elections and the “Kiambaa Curse”

Gachagua also addressed claims that he was inciting ethnic tensions by raising concerns about alleged 2027 election rigging plans.

He said his remarks were precautionary and rooted in Kenya’s dark history — notably referencing the 2007 Kiambaa church massacre in which dozens, mostly women and children, were burned alive.

“Kenyans forgive each other, but they do not forget,” he said. “We must have a free, fair, and verifiable election in 2027.”

He demanded accountability from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), warning that any attempt to rig the election would plunge the country into chaos.
