NAIROBI, Kenya- Thousands of Nairobi residents have joined Linda Mwananchi leaders in a procession through the city as the opposition movement heads to Jacaranda Grounds for its main rally.
Supporters surrounded the convoy as it moved through Marikiti, Gikomba and Jogoo Road, with many dancing and chanting as a DJ entertained the crowd from one of the vehicles.
The procession began after Linda Mwananchi leaders attended a Sunday service at ACK All Saints’ Cathedral.
The delegation included presidential aspirant Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo and other opposition figures.
ACK All Saints’ Cathedral Provost Canon Evans Omollo briefed the leaders before they left the church and began their tour of Nairobi.
At Marikiti, Sifuna rallied residents to support the opposition’s campaign to make President William Ruto a one-term president. He led the crowd in “Wantam” chants and called for unity among opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Sifuna said defeating Ruto would require cooperation involving all opposition figures, including DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua.
In Gikomba, the crowd erupted after Babu introduced Sifuna to supporters gathered along the route. The leaders addressed residents before resuming their journey towards Jacaranda Grounds.
Babu also thanked police officers accompanying the procession for maintaining peace and providing security as the convoy moved through the city.
The Linda Mwananchi movement had listed Jacaranda Grounds as the final destination of its Nairobi tour. Supporters began gathering at the venue earlier on Sunday ahead of the arrival of the main convoy.
Police maintained a heavy presence in parts of Nairobi after Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud said large political gatherings would not be permitted within the Central Business District. Police said the organisers had been allowed to proceed with activities outside the CBD, including the rally at Jacaranda Grounds.
Despite the restriction, supporters gathered at several points along the planned route to welcome the leaders.
The convoy was later seen moving along Jogoo Road, surrounded by supporters walking beside the vehicles and others watching from businesses and buildings.
The rally is part of Linda Mwananchi’s growing national political campaign ahead of the 2027 elections. The movement has previously held events in counties including Bungoma, Homa Bay and Meru.
