Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his son, Jomo Kenyatta, were among the notable attendees at the national requiem mass for the late Raila Odinga held on Friday at the Nyayo National Stadium.
The solemn ceremony, led by the Anglican Church of Kenya, brought together thousands of mourners from across the country — including political leaders, clergy, diplomats, and members of the public — to pay their final respects to the former Prime Minister and veteran opposition leader.
Uhuru, who maintained a close personal friendship and political alliance with Odinga, arrived at the stadium accompanied by his son Jomo, drawing warm applause from the crowd.
Their presence highlighted the enduring bond between the Kenyatta and Odinga families, whose shared history has significantly influenced Kenya’s post-independence politics.
The service was marked by hymns, prayers, and moving tributes reflecting Raila’s lifelong commitment to democracy, justice, and national unity.
Seated among the dignitaries were President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki,Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka as leaders from across the political spectrum momentarily set aside differences to honor one of Kenya’s most influential figures.
The requiem mass at Nyayo Stadium precedes a private burial ceremony, which the family has said will be attended only by close relatives and a few invited guests.
