NAIROBI, Kenya – The Wiper Patriotic Front has dismissed reports suggesting that party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is planning to exit the United Opposition, describing a viral notice circulating on social media as fake.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 28, the party distanced itself from a document claiming that Kalonzo would address the media to announce his political position and future plans.
Wiper said the letter, which bore the party’s branding, did not originate from its offices and urged Kenyans to ignore it.
“Ignore the fake news. We are committed to the Wantam Movement. Kenya’s liberation is a must, and Kenya cannot be liberated until we send this regime home,” the party said.
The fake notice alleged that the former Vice President would hold a press conference at the SKM Command Centre in Karen at 2 p.m. to make what it described as a “significant statement regarding his political trajectory and the future of Kenya’s leadership.”
The clarification comes amid heightened political speculation over Kalonzo’s role within the opposition coalition as leaders prepare for the 2027 General Election.
Wiper maintained that it remains firmly committed to the Wantam Movement and the broader United Opposition, which has pledged to unite behind a single presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the next general election.
Kalonzo has recently faced criticism from some supporters and political observers over what they describe as his low-profile political approach.
The scrutiny intensified after he spent the weekend in Tseikuru, Kitui County, while other opposition leaders traversed the country holding political rallies.
Despite the criticism, Kalonzo remains one of the leading figures expected to be considered as the opposition’s joint presidential flagbearer should the coalition settle on a single candidate ahead of the 2027 race.
