IEBC: New Voter Registrations Hit 875,000 Mark

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has reported a surge in voter registration, with 875,501 new voters registered between March 30 and April 9, 2026.

This marks a substantial rise of 531,185 new registrations since the last update issued on April 3.

The IEBC attributed the surge to what it described as a strong sense of national duty among citizens.

In a statement, the Commission said it was deeply inspired by the patriotic spirit displayed by Kenyans over the past week who have stepped forward to claim their right to vote.”

Beyond new registrations, the Commission reported 49,502 voter transfers and 1,066 updates of voter details, indicating that many Kenyans are also taking steps to ensure their records are current ahead of the polls.

To maintain the momentum, the IEBC confirmed that voter registration will continue throughout the ECVR period without interruption.

“Registration will take place daily, including public holidays and weekends,” the Commission stated, emphasizing efforts to make the process accessible to all eligible voters.

With several weeks of registration still ahead, electoral officials are optimistic that even more citizens will take advantage of the ongoing exercise.
