Police Seize Over 6,000 Rolls of Bhang in Kamulu and Narok in Major Drug Busts

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Police have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking, arresting one suspect and recovering large quantities of cannabis sativa in separate anti-narcotics operations in Nairobi and Narok counties.

In Kamulu, Nairobi, officers from the National Police Service (NPS) arrested a man found in possession of 5,660 rolls of bhang during a targeted operation in Ruai Sub-County on Monday.

The suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to be arraigned in court.

“The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks operating in Nairobi and its environs,” police said in a statement, warning the public against participating in narcotics-related activities.

Meanwhile, in Narok East Sub-County, a dramatic high-speed chase unfolded on the Narok–Mai Mahiu Highway after police flagged down a suspicious Toyota Land Cruiser Prado believed to be ferrying drugs from Kisii to Nairobi.

The driver defied the order to stop, prompting a pursuit by officers from Ntulele Police Station.

The vehicle was later found abandoned along the Nairegie Enkare feeder road, after reportedly developing mechanical problems. Its two occupants escaped into nearby maize plantations and are still at large.

Police recovered three sacks containing 600 brooms of bhang from the vehicle. Both the car and the drugs have been impounded as investigations continue.

Authorities commended public vigilance and urged citizens to continue reporting suspicious activities.

“The National Police Service reiterates its unwavering commitment to combating narcotics and related criminal enterprises. We continue to count on the cooperation of members of the public to help safeguard communities,” the statement added.
