NAIROBI, Kenya – Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has gifted former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua a bull during a visit to his Wamunyoro residence, as opposition leaders continue consultations on a possible joint presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.
The gesture comes amid renewed political engagements involving Gachagua, Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka and other opposition figures seeking to establish a common political front ahead of the next election.
On Monday, October 26, Gachagua hosted Kalonzo and a delegation of Wiper leaders at his home in Nyeri County for discussions on the country’s political future and the formation of the next administration.
In a statement following the meeting, Gachagua said the discussions centred on what he described as the liberation of the country and the formation of the “6th administration”.
“I have this morning held extensive consultations with my cousin, His Excellency Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and the leadership of the Wiper Patriotic Front on the liberation of our country and the formation of the 6th administration,” he said.
Gachagua added that the leaders had agreed to make sacrifices to reach a consensus on one presidential candidate to lead their political efforts.
“We are all in agreement that we shall make whatever sacrifices necessary to settle on one presidential candidate to be the captain of our struggle. Consultations continue,” he stated.
Wamunyoro Becomes a Meeting Point for Opposition Leaders
The latest meeting follows Gachagua’s October 20 engagement with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement at the same residence.
That meeting also focused on political cooperation and the search for a common presidential candidate, placing Wamunyoro at the centre of ongoing opposition consultations.
However, the question of who should lead a joint ticket remains unsettled publicly.
Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has expressed support for Sifuna as its preferred presidential candidate, while Wiper has pushed for broader opposition consultations.

The meeting with Kalonzo therefore adds another stage to discussions over how the different political camps could cooperate before the 2027 polls.
Wamalwa, who has participated in previous opposition engagements with Gachagua and Kalonzo, is among the leaders involved in efforts to bring opposition formations together.
The bull gift adds a symbolic gesture to the political engagements at Wamunyoro, although the central question facing the opposition remains whether its leaders can agree on a single candidate and a workable arrangement for the next election.
