KWALE, Kenya — Two people have died, and six others were injured after a Dreamline bus collided with a truck along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway near Taru, Kwale County.
The accident occurred on Wednesday morning, September 23, at the Mgalani area near Taru, with the bus reportedly travelling towards Mombasa when it collided with the rear of the truck.
Sub-County Police Commander Lydia Mambo confirmed that the death toll had risen to two after a passenger who was trapped alive inside the wreckage died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Passenger Trapped in Wreckage Dies
The passenger was among those trapped inside the badly damaged bus following the collision.
An earlier rescue operation had focused on freeing passengers from the wreckage, with one man reportedly found trapped and bleeding inside the bus.
Police and other responders arrived at the scene as efforts continued to evacuate passengers and take the injured to hospital.
Police Land Cruisers were reportedly used to transport some of the injured passengers to nearby health facilities.
Bus Sustains Heavy Damage
Preliminary reports indicate that the Dreamline bus rammed into the rear of the truck.
Images from the scene showed extensive damage to the front section of the bus, while debris from the collision was scattered along the highway.
Several passengers were assisted out of the damaged vehicle as emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage.
