Duale, Kindiki and Chirchir Among 6 Others Making Comeback to Cabinet

NAIROBI, Kenya – President William Ruto has finally unveiled his first batch of 11 Cabinet secretaries.

This comes barely one week after the head of state sent his entire Kenya Kwanza Cabinet packing, only retaining his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

On the afternoon of Friday, July 19, President Ruto said he had embarked on forming a “new, broad-based cabinet” to assist him in driving the country’s urgently needed and irreversible transformation.

The head of state who has come under pressure from the country’s Gen-Z population nominated the first batch of 11 individuals for consideration and approval by the National Assembly for appointment as Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General.

Who has William Ruto retained in his Cabinet

In the new nomination, President Ruto retained Kithure Kindiki as the Cabinet Secretary in Interior and National Administration.

Alice Wahome also retained her Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development docket.

Additionally, Aden Duale retained the sensitive Defence docket. Also retained is Soipan Tuya, who, until her sacking last week, was in charge of the Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry docket.

On the other hand, President Ruto has moved Davis Chirchir from the Energy Ministry to the Roads and Transport docket while nominating former Investment, Trade, and Industry CS Rebecca Miano will be the new Attorney General.

Other nominees include Debra Mlongo Barasa (Health), Julius Migos Ogamba (Education), Andrew Mwihia Karanja (Agriculture and Livestock Development), Eric Muriithi Mpuuga (Water, Sanitation and Irrigation) and Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u (Information Communication and the Digital Economy).
