KISUMU, Kenya — Eight people have been injured after a building collapsed in Maomboleo, Kisumu County, with two of the victims in critical condition and referred to hospital.
The Kenya Red Cross said its teams, working alongside a multi-agency response team, responded to the collapse and attended to the injured.
Six people were treated at the scene, while the two critically injured victims were evacuated to hospital for further medical attention.
Two Victims in Critical Condition
The Kenya Red Cross confirmed that eight people had been attended to following the collapse.
“Alongside a multi-agency response team, we have attended to eight injured people. Six were treated on site, while two in critical condition were referred to hospital,” the agency said.
The Red Cross did not immediately provide further details on the condition of those taken to hospital.
Residents Evacuated From Building
All residents were successfully evacuated from the affected building as emergency teams continued responding to the incident.
The evacuation was carried out as a precaution while rescue and assessment operations continued at the scene.
There were no immediate reports of additional casualties beyond the eight people who were injured.
Emergency Teams Respond to Collapse
The Kenya Red Cross initially alerted the public that its response teams were heading to Maomboleo after receiving reports of the building collapse.
“Reports of a building collapse in Maomboleo, Kisumu County. Response teams are en route to the scene. More to follow,” the agency said in its initial update.
The agency later confirmed that its teams had reached the scene and attended to the eight injured people.
