WAJIR, Kenya – A 20-year-old man who was being assessed for suspected Ebola Virus Disease at Habaswein Sub-County Hospital has tested negative, Wajir County authorities have confirmed.
The man had travelled to Kenya from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) through Uganda before seeking medical attention in Wajir South.
Samples collected from the patient were sent to the National Public Health Virology Laboratory in Nairobi for testing. Preliminary laboratory results subsequently returned negative for Ebola.
Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi said health officials would continue monitoring the patient and providing medical care as required.
“These results are reassuring,” Abdullahi said in a statement issued on Thursday.
Health Officials Continue Monitoring Patient
The county government said the Ministry of Health and the County Department of Health would continue monitoring the patient in line with established public health procedures.
The response involved health workers at Habaswein Sub-County Hospital, the County Department of Medical Services, the Department of Public Health and Sanitation, and national health authorities.
Officials said the measures were intended to ensure the suspected case was investigated and managed appropriately.
The negative result means the patient did not test positive for Ebola in the preliminary laboratory examination conducted on the collected sample.
Residents Urged To Rely On Official Updates
The case had raised concern because of the patient’s recent travel from the DRC through Uganda before entering Kenya.
County authorities have urged residents to avoid circulating unverified information that could cause unnecessary public anxiety.
Residents have been advised to obtain updates from the County Government of Wajir and the Ministry of Health.
The county also encouraged people experiencing unusual symptoms to seek medical attention at the nearest health facility rather than delay treatment.
Authorities said monitoring would continue as part of the public health response.
