Gun Mishap Inside Bungoma Court Leaves Five Injured

Date:

BUNGOMA, Kenya — Panic gripped the Bungoma Law Courts on Tuesday morning after a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer’s firearm accidentally discharged during a hearing, leaving five people injured.

The Judiciary said the 10:50 a.m. incident occurred inside the courtroom, injuring the officer himself, a Kenya Prisons officer, and three civilians.

“All five were rushed to Bungoma Referral Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. They are all reported to be in stable condition. There were no serious injuries or fatalities,” Judiciary spokesperson Paul Ndemo said in a statement.

Ndemo reassured the public that court operations and staff remained safe despite the scare.

“All court officials as well as members of the public at the Court are safe, and there is therefore no need for alarm,” he added.

The county security team immediately visited the court to assess the situation, as the Judiciary pledged to provide updates on the matter.

The incident briefly disrupted proceedings but normal operations later resumed.
