“He’s Doing a Good Job”: ODM Boss Oburu Odinga Defends SG Sifuna

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has thrown his weight behind Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, describing him as a steadfast communicator who accurately represents the party’s official stance on national matters.

Speaking on Sunday, Senator Oginga praised Sifuna’s consistency and assertiveness in articulating ODM’s position, noting that his communication reflects the views and principles of the party leadership.

“Edwin Sifuna communicates the true position of the ODM Party. He is doing a good job,” Oburu stated, lauding the Nairobi Senator for maintaining clarity and discipline in the party’s messaging amid shifting political dynamics.

The endorsement comes at a time when ODM, under the Azimio la Umoja coalition, is recalibrating its strategy following the death of opposition leader Raila Odinga, with internal cohesion and leadership messaging seen as key to the party’s stability.

Sifuna has in recent weeks been vocal on issues ranging from governance and constitutional accountability to the role of the opposition in safeguarding democratic institutions. His strong statements on executive overreach and electoral reforms have positioned him as one of the party’s leading voices during a politically transitional moment.

Party insiders view Oburu’s remarks as a signal of confidence from the Odinga family in Sifuna’s stewardship of ODM’s communication machinery. The senator, who is Raila Odinga’s elder brother, has long been a key figure in the party’s founding and ideological grounding.

Observers say his endorsement could help unify the ODM rank and file as the party navigates leadership realignments ahead of the 2027 elections. “Sifuna’s disciplined messaging and national presence make him indispensable to ODM’s renewal process,” said a senior party official who requested anonymity.

With Raila’s political legacy continuing to shape the opposition’s agenda, Oburu’s remarks underscore ODM’s effort to maintain continuity and reinforce a clear, united voice in Kenya’s evolving political landscape.
