Raila Odinga’s Body to Be Airlifted to Kisumu Ahead of Sunday Burial

NAIROBI, Kenya — Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced the next phase of the late Raila Amolo Odinga’s state funeral arrangements, confirming that his body will be airlifted to Mamboleo Grounds in Kisumu on Saturday morning by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

Speaking during a press briefing at Karen, Kindiki said the KDF aircraft carrying the late former Prime Minister’s remains will arrive in Kisumu at 8 a.m., and urged members of the public to be seated by 7 a.m. to accord a dignified reception.

“Tomorrow, the mortal remains of the Late Raila Odinga will be airlifted to Mamboleo Grounds in Kisumu by the KDF, arriving at 8 a.m. Members of the public are requested to be settled by 7 a.m. to dignify the arrival,” Kindiki said.

He added that public viewing of the body will continue throughout the day “until we are satisfied that everyone has had a chance to pay their last respects.”

According to Kindiki, the body will later be transported to Bondo, Siaya County, on Saturday evening for an overnight stay at the Odinga family home, ahead of the final burial on Sunday.

The Deputy President reiterated the government’s call for peace, order, and unity during the remaining days of mourning, urging Kenyans to honor Odinga’s legacy with dignity and national solidarity.
