7 Counties to Face Power Outage Due to KPLC Maintenance on Friday, May 30

NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenya Power has announced a scheduled electricity shutdown affecting parts of seven counties this Friday as it undertakes routine maintenance on its distribution lines.

The interruptions, which will last for up to eight hours in some areas, are expected to impact thousands of homes, institutions, and businesses across the country.

In a public notice issued this week, the utility company said the planned outages are part of ongoing efforts to enhance grid reliability, upgrade infrastructure, and minimize future disruptions.

North Rift Region: Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, and Nandi Counties

Trans Nzoia County will see power cut from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Bikeke and Alakara areas.

Affected locations include Bikeke Boys and Girls High Schools, Area 51, Maili, Machungwa, Wehoya, Musemwa, Alakara, Meru Farm 7, Misemwa, Nyakinywa, and surrounding communities.

In Uasin Gishu County, Chepkuurmum and Usalama areas will experience outages starting an hour earlier, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Affected locations include Tinga, Karungu, Kipkabus Technical Training Institute, Leltot, and Baharini.

In Nandi County, the blackout will target New Chepterwai and Singilet areas between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Western Region: Kakamega County

In Kakamega County, Kenya Power will interrupt supply to Musoli Market and adjacent areas, including Akatsa Market, Bukura Agricultural College, Sigalagala National Polytechnic, Ilesi Market, and Khaega Market. The outage is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

South Nyanza Region: Kisii County

In Kisii County, parts of Nyamataro and Embassy areas will go without electricity during the same 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. window.

Notable institutions and neighborhoods to be affected include Nyabururu Complex, Prof. Nyasani area, Kanunda, Chokom, Kiamwasi, and schools such as Soko Primary and Secondary, Cardinal Otunga Complex, Mosocho, Ongicha, and Matieko Complex.

Mt. Kenya Region: Murang’a County

Residents and businesses in Murang’a County, specifically Githingiri and Thika Greens, will also be impacted.

Entire estates, the Thika Greens Golf Club, Thika Sports Club, KALRO and KARI research centers, Carton Manufacturers, and Mugumo Farm are slated to lose power from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Coast Region: Kilifi County

Finally, in Kilifi County, areas around Rabai will experience electricity cuts.

The affected zones include Rabai Slaughter, Peleleza, Mwache Quarry, the Mwache Dam construction site, and Rabai Secondary School. The outage will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Kenya Power Urges Caution

Kenya Power has advised all affected customers to plan accordingly and take necessary precautions.

The company emphasized that all electrical lines should be treated as live during the maintenance period, even in the absence of power.
