NAIROBI, Kenya— The Association of Insurance Brokers of Kenya (AIBK) has teamed up with Birdview Microinsurance to unlock what they term the full potential of microinsurance in the country.
This collaboration sets its sights on a market long ignored by informal workers, low-income earners, and small business owners who often fall through the cracks of traditional insurance systems.
At the heart of this alliance is a shared mission: making insurance truly accessible, affordable, and relevant to everyday Kenyans.
“This isn’t just about selling policies,” said AIBK Chairman John Arap Lagat.
“It’s about building a safety net for communities that have been invisible to the mainstream insurance sector for far too long.”
Birdview Microinsurance hopes to change that narrative. CEO James Kimani described the firm’s approach as people-first, not profit-first.
“We’re here to restore dignity and build trust with underserved communities. Brokers are still key players and with them, we can deliver real impact.”
Birdview is also eyeing the diaspora, designing products that allow Kenyans abroad to pay for healthcare services for their families at home.
AIBK’s CEO Eliud Adiedo called the initiative a chance to reshape the future of insurance in Kenya.
“Our focus is not just on inclusion but on relevance. We want insurance to be something people value, not something they fear or ignore.”
