Bungoma Residents Given Cows, Goats and Dorper Sheep in Empowerment Program By Lusaka

Date:

BUNGOMA, Kenya – Bungoma residents are set to benefit from a transformative livestock distribution program, as Governor Kenneth Lusaka facilitated the delivery of over 500 animals to local farmers.

This initiative, part of the County Empowerment Fund, aims to bolster food security and promote sustainable livelihoods through economic empowerment.

Lusaka, who shared the news on his X account, emphasized the significant impact of this program, which involves the distribution of 236 young dairy heifers, 264 Alpine goats, and Dorper sheep across 17 wards.

Speaking during the handover of 30 high-quality heifers to farmer groups in Kabula Ward, Lusaka highlighted the critical role of community-driven programs in improving the economic well-being of local residents.

“This initiative reinforces our commitment to economic empowerment and food security,” Lusaka said. “By providing high-quality livestock to small-scale farmers, we are ensuring that these families can secure sustainable livelihoods.”

A key feature of the program is its focus on sustainability.

As part of the initiative, farmers are expected to pass on their heifers after they calve, creating a ripple effect that will benefit future generations of farmers.

Governor Lusaka called on more residents to embrace livestock farming as a viable route to economic growth and poverty alleviation, underlining the importance of community support in achieving long-term success.

Through such empowerment programs, Bungoma continues to take significant steps toward strengthening its agricultural sector and uplifting its communities.
