CS Mutua Confirms Suspension of National Job Recruitment Programme

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has reaffirmed that the government’s national overseas job recruitment programme remains suspended until further notice, despite reports of ongoing activity at some recruitment stations.

Mutua’s statement comes amid confusion after individuals seeking job opportunities continued to turn up at recruitment centres, unaware of the suspension.

He emphasized that no new recruitment is currently underway under the ministry’s mandate.

“There are currently no other active recruitment activities under the Ministry’s mandate. Members of the public are therefore advised to disregard the earlier recruitment schedule, which was set to run until February 20, 2025, and to rely solely on official communication from the Ministry for any future updates,” Mutua said.

However, he clarified that a special recruitment drive is taking place in Kisumu on Friday and Saturday, February 7 and 8, 2025.

This initiative is being conducted on the sidelines of the ongoing Nyanza International Investment Conference and is exclusively targeting job seekers from Nyanza counties.

Mutua’s latest announcement follows the government’s decision to halt the nationwide recruitment over two months ago.

He reiterated that the suspension was necessary to allow authorities to assess the progress made so far, refine the recruitment process, and ensure proper documentation for those already selected.

The exercise, which began in Machakos County on November 20, 2024, had successfully reached six counties before it was paused.

Kakamega was the next scheduled stop, but the programme was put on hold.

Mutua attributed the suspension to a logistical challenge, explaining that the same personnel involved in recruitment were also needed for the review and verification of documents.

“We are taking a brief pause to evaluate the progress, reorganize processes based on our learnings, and ensure that those already selected have their documentation in order before proceeding overseas,” he stated.

Members of the public have been urged to await further updates from the ministry and avoid falling victim to misinformation regarding recruitment activities.
