NAIROBI, Kenya — The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has taken over investigations into the reported abduction of Mlolongo businessman Jimmy Mutava, with detectives from the agency’s Anti-Abduction Unit now leading efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
In a statement, the DCI said the investigations followed a report lodged at Mlolongo Police Station on July 27, 2026, regarding Mutava’s alleged abduction.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations wishes to inform the public that detectives from the DCI Anti-Abduction Unit have taken over investigations into the reported alleged abduction of Jimmy Mutava,” the agency said.
The DCI said investigators are pursuing several persons of interest as they seek to piece together the events leading to the businessman’s disappearance.
“Investigations are currently underway, with detectives pursuing several persons of interest as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the reported incident,” the statement added.
The agency pledged to keep the public updated as the investigation progresses.
“The DCI will keep the public informed of significant developments as the investigations progress,” it said.
The development comes amid growing concern over Mutava’s whereabouts after CCTV footage reportedly captured his final known movements before he allegedly disappeared outside an entertainment establishment in Mlolongo Town.
According to footage aired by a local television station, Mutava arrived at the venue after being dropped off by a white vehicle before meeting two individuals at different times inside the establishment. One of the individuals was reportedly believed to be a senior police officer, while a woman later joined the pair.
The recordings also reportedly show Mutava using two mobile phones before leaving the premises while speaking on one of them. Witnesses have alleged that moments later, masked and armed men confronted him outside the establishment before he disappeared.
Family members and friends have expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding the incident, alleging that police officers may have been involved in the alleged abduction. However, those claims remain unverified, and investigators have not confirmed any involvement by law enforcement officers.
The family says it is still seeking answers over the events captured on surveillance cameras and has appealed for a thorough investigation into the disappearance.
