NAIROBI, Kenya- Kenya’s political landscape has expanded ahead of the 2027 General Election after the Registrar of Political Parties approved the registration of three political parties under the Political Parties Act.
In a Gazette Notice, Registrar of Political Parties and Chief Executive Officer John Lorionokou announced that the United Party Movement (UPM) has been granted full registration, while the Social Democratic Party of Kenya (SDP) and the People’s Alternative Voice (PAV) have received provisional registration.
Lorionokou said the United Party Movement was issued with a certificate of full registration under Section 7 of the Political Parties Act, allowing it to operate as a fully registered political party.
According to the Gazette Notice, the party’s official colours are orange, black and white, while its symbol is a face mask. Its slogan is “Stability and Prosperity.”
The party’s headquarters are located in Kitengela Township along the Kitengela-Namanga Road behind Nairobi Women’s Hospital.
Its founding members are Chrispinus Fai Tundai, Monica Muchite, Jabiri Sarah Lozi, Ongige Jackson Ndege and Ligwilu Hezron Maina.
The Registrar also granted provisional registration to the Social Democratic Party of Kenya.
The party will use pink, white and sky blue as its official colours, with “SDP” enclosed in a circle serving as its symbol. Its slogan is “Change – Mageuzi.”
Its founding members are Nyanjong’ Duncan Nyumbah, Omwandasi Jared Dishon and Kinyua Mary Wacuka.
Meanwhile, the People’s Alternative Voice has also received provisional registration.
The party’s official colours are purple, gold and white, while its symbol is a shofar. It will use the slogan “Sauti Mbadala – Haki, Usawa na Maendeleo.”
Its founding members are Odenyo John Fitzgerald Elly, Nyando Rachel Mmboga and Ali Hussein Kiplangat.
The Registrar has invited members of the public wishing to oppose or comment on the provisional registration of the Social Democratic Party of Kenya and the People’s Alternative Voice to submit written representations within seven days of the Gazette Notice’s publication.
The latest registrations come as political activity continues to intensify ahead of the 2027 General Election, with new parties seeking to establish themselves before the official campaign period begins.
