Family Discovers Decomposing Body in Water Well in Gatundu North

Date:

GATUNDU NORTH, Kenya — A family in Inoorero Village, Kamunyaka, Gatundu North Constituency, Kiambu County, has been left shocked after discovering a decomposing body inside a well they had been using as a source of domestic water.

The grim discovery was made by Joseph Muriithi Kinyanjui while he was fetching water from the well, according to a police report cited by Citizen Digital.

Muriithi reportedly became suspicious after the bucket he was using became stuck on what appeared to be a heavy object at the bottom of the well.

He then used a torch to inspect the water source and was shocked to see what appeared to be a decomposing human body.

Police retrieve body from well

The discovery prompted the family to alert police, who responded to the scene alongside Kiambu County firefighters.

The responders retrieved the body from the well, with police confirming that it was that of a woman.

However, the woman’s identity had not been established by the time of reporting.

The family said they were struggling to come to terms with the discovery and could not explain how the body ended up inside the well or how long it had remained there.

The body was transported to General Kago Mortuary in Thika, where it was preserved pending identification and further examination.

Investigations launched

Police have opened investigations into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and how her body ended up in the family’s water source.

Detectives are expected to establish the woman’s identity as part of the investigation and determine whether she was known to residents of the area.

A postmortem examination is also expected to establish the cause and circumstances of her death.

Authorities will also investigate whether the woman died at the location or whether her body was placed inside the well after her death.

The discovery has raised concerns among residents about the circumstances surrounding the incident, particularly because the well had been routinely used by the family for domestic water.

Police investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to identify the deceased and establish what happened before her body was discovered.
