‘Do Not Push Us to the Wall’: Moses Kuria Issues Warning on Mt Kenya Profiling”

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Former Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has issued a blunt warning to top government officials, accusing them of stoking ethnic tensions by profiling the Mt Kenya community.

Kuria, in a strongly worded statement on social media, directly named Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale alongside MPs William Kamket and Jackson Mandago, saying their repeated claims that Mt Kenya leaders view themselves as superior were reckless and dangerous.

“I have heard leaders from Kamket to Mandago to Duale accuse a whole community of arrogance. That’s wrong and dangerous,” Kuria declared.

He challenged the leaders to confront individuals they disagreed with instead of targeting an entire region.

“If you have a problem with someone from Mt Kenya, face them directly. Don’t attack an entire people,” he said.

Kuria, once a key ally of President William Ruto and later his senior economic advisor, said it was unacceptable to punish a whole community for the conduct of a few. He went further, offering himself as the scapegoat.

“If Mt Kenya people have eaten your goat, Kamket, Mandago or Duale, tell me and I’ll pay you back,” he said.

The former minister warned that continued attacks on the Mt Kenya bloc risked triggering political consequences.

“Do not drive our backs against the wall. A point of no return may lead to very unintended consequences,” Kuria cautioned.

His remarks underscore the growing rift inside the Kenya Kwanza coalition, where Mt Kenya leaders are increasingly voicing frustration over what they see as deliberate sidelining, despite the region delivering a decisive voting bloc in the 2022 elections.

Kuria’s warning adds to the chorus of discontent, highlighting tensions that continue to test the ruling alliance’s unity as the country edges closer to the 2027 polls.
