NAIROBI, Kenya – Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo and seven associates are set to face charges of kidnapping with intent to cause grievous harm and robbery with violence, following an arrest order issued by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
The charges stem from a June 2025 incident at Outbark Hotel in Maanzoni, Machakos County, where former Isiolo County Chief Officer of Health Abdirahaman Mohamed and 15 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) allied to Guyo’s impeachment were allegedly abducted, assaulted, and robbed.
According to the ODPP, Abdirahaman was disarmed and bundled into a vehicle before being taken to the Ruai Sewage area. There, he was blindfolded, beaten and abandoned.
During the ordeal, he reportedly lost a licensed Glock pistol with 15 rounds, an iPhone 16, Sh70,000 in cash, and other personal items.
The case was initially received on June 19, 2025, by ODPP Machakos as an inquiry file from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Due to its public interest, the file was referred to ODPP headquarters in Nairobi for an independent review.
“Following a comprehensive review, the ODPP established that Governor Guyo and his supporters forcibly abducted and attacked Abdirahaman, moved him to a separate location, blindfolded, beat and abandoned him, during which he lost personal belongings,” the statement read.
CCTV footage from Outbark Hotel reportedly placed Governor Guyo at the scene alongside Abdullahi Jaldesa Banticah, Dade Boru, Abdirashid Ali Diba (alias Ngila), Abdinur Dima Jiilo, Ahmed Duale, Josephat Mwangi Komu, and Yusuf Maina.
On the basis of this evidence, DPP Renson Ingonga directed the DCI to apprehend and arraign all eight suspects.
The arrests come at a politically charged moment in Isiolo, where Governor Guyo is facing heightened scrutiny following his impeachment pushback, a matter he has previously dismissed as politically motivated.
