BUNGOMA, Kenya – The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a teacher at Friends School Kamusinga Boys High School over allegations of demanding bribes from unemployed teachers in exchange for securing them jobs at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The suspect, identified as Lilian Nelima Buluma, was arrested on October 12, 2026, following preliminary investigations into complaints that she had allegedly demanded Sh100,000 from each of three unemployed teachers, amounting to Sh300,000.
According to the EACC, preliminary investigations indicate that Buluma had already received Sh150,000 through M-Pesa as part of the alleged payments.
The commission said the suspect purported to have connections within the TSC and other government offices that could help facilitate the recruitment of the job seekers.
Following her arrest, Buluma was processed at the EACC Western Regional Office before being booked at Bungoma Police Station as investigations continue.
She could face charges of requesting and receiving a bribe, contrary to Section 6 as read with Section 18 of the Anti-Bribery Act, 2016.
The EACC reiterated its commitment to combating corruption and promoting integrity in public service, warning against the use of purported connections to government institutions to solicit money from job seekers.
The allegations have yet to be determined in court.
